About
Hello there!

Thank you for taking the time to look around on Do They Even Care? My name is Nienke. I am a slow fashion enthusiast from The Netherlands. In my daily life I work as a professional dancer for a modern ballet company. In my spare time I dance a little more in a different setting ;-) and try to learn as much as I can about our consuming-addicted society and how we can minimize the impact that it has on our planet.
I have been highly interested in fashion since I was a little girl. Until about three years ago, I loved clothes, shopping, fashion magazines and everything related to those things. I still do now, but before that time I never thought about the consequences my love for clothes had. Apart from the consequences on my bank account of course.
When I heard about the collapse of Rana Plaza in Bangladesh in 2013 I was upset, but I continued my life as I did before. When I heard a garment worker inserted a message into a piece of clothing sold at Primark asking for help, I felt bad for that person. But then again I continued with my life as I did before. Looking back I wish I picked up these signals a lot sooner…
My interest in a conscious wardrobe and lifestyle started after watching the documentary The True Cost. The devastating images and stories from the “behind the scenes” of the fashion industry had such a big impact on me that I could not look at this industry with the same eyes. I decided I had to make changes in my life. I tried to get to know more about the conduct of business of some brands and told my friends about my findings. They were interested in the information I gave them, so I thought I should share the information I have with more people – with you!
Fast fashion is a global problem and I think once we all know about the consequences, we as consumers can make a big difference. With Do They Even Care? I hope to take you with me along the road to more insight into the background of fashion brands. The brands I present to you will be big, small, slow, fast, well known and/or unfamiliar. I do not have the intention to tell you what to do or which choices you should make in your life. I just provide you the information that is available and I think you should know of, but of course I hope I can inspire you to be more conscious of your consumption.
Enough about me and the blog, tell me more about you! Feel free to e-mail me at any time, or find me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Thanks for reading!
